Many Americans choose to spend a little extra money at the grocery store in order to get, what we believe to be, healthier, and better tasting water than what comes from the tap. Although, just because label on the bottle has natural springs, glaciers, lakes, and mountains doesn't mean the place that it actually comes from looks any thing like that. Unfortunately, it has also been recently released that most bottled water companies aren't better than tap water, and in some cases they're even worse. Here are some more things they haven't told you about bottled water...

Don't let the label fool you.

The popular company, PepsiCo , which is responsible for bottled water brands such as Aquafina, has made a recent announcement regarding their label. They stated that they would change their label in order to make it more obvious that their water came from public sources, and in all reality, similar to many other bottled water brands, is just purified tap water. PepsiCo says they will take the misleading mountains off the label, and replace with something a little more appropriate.

Why do they mislead us?

Over half of Americans drink bottled water on a monthly basis, and over 1/3 of them drink bottled water on a daily basis. Most of the big companies believe that it is due to the fact that they believe tap water is not safe for consumption, so putting a natural water source on the label is a good way to mislead the consumer without really lying to them. Since water is the only ingredient you need, and filtering it is the only process you have to put it through, the bottled water industry profits over 13 billion dollars every year.

Is it actually worse than tap water?

Although they may be rare, the CDC has gotten reports of chemical, and bacterial outbreaks in bottled water. This can happen because while it gets tested for harmful contaminants like lead, arsenic, and chloroform, bottled water from major companies are not required to disclose information about other slightly less common chemicals.
