Dry, brittle, or otherwise called "fried" hair is no fun to have. There really are few cures for it aside from cutting it off and regrowing it. Having fried hair is pretty common and totally avoidable. There are things we put our hair through that you wouldn't think would be that damaging, but they definitely are. Here's what you should avoid.

1. Excessive heat.

Don't let your hair get too hot. Excessively using blow driers as well as running the furnace at too high a temperature in the winter can all impact your hair. Overexposure to the sun can also dehydrate your hair.

2. Smoothing treatments.

Smoothing treatments aim to smooth out and make soft your hair, but if you do it too much, you can actually permanently damage it. Excessive smoothing treatments actually causes a buildup of protein in the hair which makes your hair brittle and easy to damage.

3. Sudden hormone changes.

Okay, I definitely can't say that pregnancy is a common mistake (or maybe I can?) but sudden changes in hormones can definitely cause damage to your hair. This includes trying new types of birth control as well as menopause and psychological changes. Too much stress can actually damage your hair! Relax, everyone.
