Did you know that the body odor does not just come from the underarm? It also comes from anywhere there are sebaceous (oil) and sweat glands.

The scalp, genitals, feet, and even nipples are included here. According to Joshua Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in the department of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, it is not the sweat that causes body smell. The unpleasant smell develops when bacteria that are naturally found on the skin, start to break down the sweat.

A daily shower, change of clothes, and a swipe of deodorant do the trick for a lot of people. But, on the other hand, people who sweat excessively, known as hyperhidrosis, have certain illnesses just like diabetes, or tend to steer clear of aluminum-based antiperspirants can have a harder time getting rid of the stench.

But, you should not lose faith. Here are some solutions for this problem. In less than a month, you can be a whole lot slimmer, way more energetic, and so much healthier.

1. Try apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a potent bacteria- fighting ingredient. It inhibits the growth of bacteria—including the kind that makes your sweat smell gross. You have to be careful, because Zeichner says that apple cider vinegar and lemon juice can reduce levels of odor-causing bacteria on the skin, but they can also cause skin irritation. So, before you soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar or add a splash to your bathwater, make sure that you do not have minor cuts or scrapes. Additionally, witch hazel, and tea tree oil are also antimicrobial.

2. Keep the underarm shaved

Bacteria succeeds in warm, moist environments, and armpit hair can create an ideal swampy habitat. Zeichner says that hair, together with the dirt and oil that accumulate in it, can promote the growth of bacteria that is causing the odor.

3. Ease up on the stress

While you are doing some exercises or otherwise get overheated, your eccrine glands, the major sweat glands, produce a watery substance that is designed to regulate body temperature. On the other hand, emotional stress causes different glands—the apocrine glands. These are found mostly in the underarms and groin area, and they secrete a milky fluid. According to experts at the Mayo Clinic, this liquid consists of water and lipids, so it is a real feast for odor-causing bacteria.Other practices that can help you are meditation or yoga.
