These Egg Shaped Burial Pods Could Turn Our Cemeteries Into Forests

Death is a hard concept to wrap your head around, but I’ve found sometimes when I take a look at the big picture of the Earth and subsequent generations, death starts to make a little bit more sense. We have trouble saying with 100% certainty what happens to our souls when we pass, but we are in complete control over what happens to our bodies. And that’s where neat concepts like the burial pod comes in handy.

Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel developed the Capsula Mundi concept, where your body is buried in an egg-shaped pod made from biodegradable starch. The pod is placed into the ground, and a tree or tree seed is planted overtop the pod, utilizing the nutrients left behind by your physical body to nourish a tree.

    From the website:

“Capsula Mundi saves the life of  a tree and proposes to plant one more. By planting different kinds of trees next to each other it creates a forest. A place where children will be able to learn all about trees. It’s also a place for a beautiful walk and a reminder of our loved ones.”

I for one like this concept. I could see all of our cemeteries actually being forests, allowing our loved ones, and eventually ourselves, to live on through a tree.

    Would you do it?
