1. Drink green tea.
Five cups of green tea a day has been found to speed up the metabolism thanks to the catechins in the tea. Two cups of green tea in the morning and then 3 after lunch optimizes the metabolism boost.
2. Get plenty of fiber in your diet.
Fiber is needed to break down food and aid your digestive system’s work. It also helps you feel full longer. Eat more whole wheat foods, fruit, oatmeal, kale and spinach.
3. Get more exercise.
Hey, I said you wouldn’t have to run a mile. That doesn’t mean I don’t expect you to walk, hike, swim, and lift weights! Exercising for at least 20 minutes creates a great metabolism spike and leads to more calories being burned throughout the day.
4. Eat some garlic.
Garlic helps balance your blood sugar level and prevents energy crashes. Garlic also helps lower blood pressure, power up your immune system, and reduce food cravings that lead to weight gain.
5. Eat celery.
Celery is a weight loss superfood coming in at only 6 calories per stalk. You actually use more calories digesting it than you get from it. This vegetable is ideal for killing hunger cravings between meals.
6. Try intermittent fasting.
This is an interesting type of short-term fasting that may provide a small boost to your metabolism. Basically you eat only during a set 6 hours a day, usually between noon and 6. You can get a similar effect by eating nothing after 6pm.
7. Get plenty of sleep.
If you’re not letting yourself sleep, you may be harming your metabolism. Make sure you get to bed at about the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning.
